Budget Friendly Kitchen Updates
When we first moved into our home it was not love at first sight between me and the kitchen. I had a very expensive vision with what I wanted to do with the space. To me, an updated kitchen really sells a home. Our kitchen already had granite counter tops and hardwood floors but it needed some TLC when it came to paint, fixtures, and hardware. If I had all the money in the world (well one I would have bought an actual move in ready house haha), but two I would have swapped out the counter tops and back splash, opened up the wall to the living room, and added bench seating in the breakfast nook. Can you guess who totally turned me down on all my wonderful ideas?? Husbands, am I right??
Anyways, because we were limited on funds I knew I could still make this kitchen a space for me and my family to love. The first thing we did was paint the yellow cabinets.
I love two toned galley kitchens. I think it really adds dimension to a space. We painted the walls a light grey to match the rest of the house. We used slow perch for the walls by Kelly Moore. American White by Kelly Moore for the uppers and Mount Rushmore by Kelly Moore for the lowers. We stuck to the same grey color swatch throughout the entire house just going up or down on the light/dark scale so that it all stayed within the same color scheme.
We did a few small updates all from Amazon. The first one we did was swap the brushed nickel pulls for matte black. We used these from amazon. I love the modern feel it brought to our kitchen.
The next Amazon update was this light fixture. We had it in our kitchen for a year and I loved it. But it wasn’t hanging exactly in the middle of the breakfast nook and that bothered me so I swapped it for this Ikea one. I also really love this similar rattan light from amazon.
We had a very old faucet that desperately needed replacing. I found this industrial one on amazon and we love how that small change made such a big difference! Looking back I really wish I would have gone for this matte black one to match the pulls. And… I still might. Stay tuned.
Finally, floating shelves. I absolutely love floating shelves in any room. But especially in the kitchen. We had some space next to our cabinets and I knew immediately I was going to fill it with open shelving. We got these two foot floating shelves from target and they fit perfectly! Again, if I had my way I would have liked to replace all the uppers with open shelving but… maybe the next house.

I hope you try some of these super simple budget friendly updates on your own kitchen! Just because you may be low on funds (like us) doesn’t mean you still can’t make your home a place you love. Happy updating :)
With love,
